Pittsburgh Possession Charges Withdrawn

A man in his mid-30s was recently charged with multiple misdemeanor drug offenses in Pittsburgh Municipal Court. These included possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence. The man had significant criminal history and was not particularly concerned about his criminal record, except that he wanted to avoid jail time. At the time of the offense, he had been serving probation for a prior drug conviction. He hired Pittsburgh criminal defense attorneys Mike Worgul and Samir Sarna to represent him with the hope of avoiding additional jail time.

At the time of the offense, the client was subjected to a search when the police drove by a parked car occupied by three people and smelled marijuana. Samir attended two court dates on the client’s behalf and focused on lack of suspicion for the stop as part of his defense. He was able to negotiate an agreement with the District Attorney’s Office, and ultimately the client agreed to a plea deal. This meant pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, a summary offense, and paying the $100 fine plus court costs. All of his other charges were withdrawn.
