Teacher Charged With Three Traffic Violations, Reduced Charge

When a 45-year-old music teacher from Carnegie contacted experienced Pittsburgh criminal defense attorney Matthew Ness, he knew he could help. Our client found himself with three charges including driving under a suspended registration, exceeding the posted speed limit by 31 mph, and driving without insurance. The man had some limited traffic violations but nothing within the last few years.

The police officer at the scene did not want any favorable action for the teacher. We advised him to get his insurance and registration up-to-date as soon as possible after he was charged to which he complied. At the evidentiary hearing, Ness made strong arguments in his client’s favor. The judge then found him not guilty of the financial responsibility of these charges. Had our client been convicted, he would be faced with a three-month license suspension with three points on his record. We successfully beat that charge.

The suspended registration charge was reduced to an incidental vehicle violation. Our client paid a fine and did not get the three-month suspension associated with this charge. His speeding violation was reduced accordingly, from 31 over to only 11 over with three points. He avoided having to retake the state driver’s exam.
