Man Found Not Guilty on Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Simple Assault Charges

Our criminal lawyers recently helped a man in his mid-30s who was charged with robbery (a first-degree felony), aggravated assault (a first-degree felony), and simple assault (a second-degree misdemeanor). Since he had just finished serving eight years for a 5-10 year state sentence for robbery, he did not want to face additional prison time, fines, and the personal upheaval that goes along with felony convictions. He sought out attorney Samir Sarna to handle his case.

At the time of the alleged offense, our client was standing with two friends in front of a restaurant on the North Side of Pittsburgh when a lady walked by, pushing her baby in a stroller. The woman accused our client of showing a firearm and demanding that she hand over her purse. She also claimed that our client took her purse and ran away from the area. Our client was spotted by law enforcement a few blocks away from the alleged scene.

Samir attended two court dates on the client’s behalf in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. After assessing the Commonwealth’s case against the client and reviewing the circumstances, Samir’s defense focused on a bad identification from the woman and a lack of physical evidence. After a bench trial, our client was found not guilty on all charges, which means no additional prison time or fines.

Case results depend upon a variety of factors unique to each case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any future case.
